S532 – Urethrotomy - transurethral (visual)

This service is for a transurethral urethrotomy, which is an endoscopic procedure to incise a urethral stricture. The procedure is performed under direct vision. It is distinct from the external urethrotomy (S530). If this procedure is repeated by the same surgeon on the same patient within a 6-month period, it should be billed as S538. The fee for the surgeon is a flat rate. The fees for an assistant and anaesthetist are calculated based on basic units plus time-based units. The Schedule lists 6 basic units for an assistant (<suffix>B</suffix>) and 6 basic units for anaesthesia (<suffix>C</suffix>).
When to Use
- Use S532 for the initial endoscopic incision of a urethral stricture performed under direct vision.
- Use S532 when the procedure is performed as a primary intervention, distinguishing it from the open surgical approach of S530.
