A unilateral surgical repair of the vas deferens via vasovasostomy and/or vasoepididymostomy. Microscopic control may be included if required. Note: Vasectomy reversal is an insured benefit only for treatment of significant symptomatology, and requires prior approval. Re-establishing fertility does not constitute significant symptomatology.
When to Use
- Use S623 for the unilateral surgical repair of the vas deferens or epididymis specifically to treat chronic post-vasectomy pain syndrome that has been documented as medically significant.
- Use this code when performing a unilateral vasoepididymostomy for obstructive azoospermia caused by trauma or infection, provided the Ministry has granted prior approval for the procedure as a non-fertility-related medical necessity.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S623 for elective vasectomy reversal to restore fertility will result in automatic rejection and potential audit, as this is explicitly excluded from OHIP coverage.
