Tubal plastic operation with/without operating microscope (unilateral or bilateral) - salpingostomy.
When to Use
- Use S736 for the creation of a new opening in a blocked fallopian tube to restore patency, specifically for distal tubal occlusion.
- Use S736 when performing a salpingostomy as a primary procedure for tubal factor infertility or to treat a hydrosalpinx.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S736 in conjunction with S735 (Salpingectomy) or S739 (Salpingolysis) for the same tube, as this constitutes unbundling or double-billing for the same anatomical site.
- Failure to append the E862 premium when the procedure is performed laparoscopically will result in a 25% underpayment of the surgical fee.
- Billing S736 for a tubal ligation or reversal (which fall under different specific codes) will lead to claim rejection or audit recovery.
Billing Tips
- Always ensure the E862 premium is included on the same claim as S736 when the laparoscopic approach is utilized to capture the 25% fee increase.
- If the procedure is performed on both tubes, S736 is billed as a single unit, as the fee is inclusive of unilateral or bilateral performance.
