T650 – T650
OHIP Other Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use T650 for the initial assessment and management of a patient presenting with acute poisoning or toxic ingestion requiring immediate intervention.
- Apply this code when managing a patient with a confirmed drug overdose or toxic exposure that necessitates a higher level of clinical oversight than a standard A007 or A001 assessment.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing T650 in conjunction with a standard office visit code (A001/A007) for the same encounter will result in a rejection for duplicate service.
- Failure to document the specific toxic agent or the clinical severity of the poisoning often leads to audit recovery, as the Ministry expects clear evidence of the 'toxic' nature of the visit.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the diagnostic code recorded on the claim aligns with the poisoning or toxic effect (ICD-9 codes 960-989) to prevent automatic rejection of the T650 fee.
