U023 – Complex psoriasis or complex dermatitis
OHIP Other Code — CONSULTATIONS AND VISITS · Schedule of Benefits
Repeat e-assessment is the first e-assessment performed by a particular specialist following an initial e-assessment or consultation by that specialist that is requested by the primary care physician or nurse practitioner for the same diagnosis where the specialist must review all relevant data provided by the primary care physician or nurse practitioner and provide an opinion that includes management advice to the primary care physician or nurse practitioner.
When to Use
- Use U023 when providing a follow-up e-assessment for a patient with complex psoriasis or dermatitis who was previously assessed by you via U021.
- Select this code when the referring provider requests a review of new clinical data or treatment failure for the same chronic dermatological condition previously addressed in an initial e-assessment.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing U023 for a standard follow-up visit where the patient is seen in-person; this code is strictly for virtual/e-assessment services.
- Submitting U023 when the clinical interaction does not involve a formal written or telephonic opinion provided back to the referring physician, as this is a mandatory requirement for the fee.
- Confusing U023 with U025 or U026, which are intended for different complexity levels or follow-up intervals.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your documentation explicitly links the current advice to the initial diagnosis established during the U021 encounter to satisfy the 'same diagnosis' requirement.
