When to Use
- Use V302 for the specific purpose of a repeat immunization or injection when the patient returns to the office solely for that administration.
- Apply this code when a nurse or physician administers a biological or vaccine that was not provided during a comprehensive assessment or minor procedure visit.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing V302 in addition to a consultation or assessment code (e.g., A007) is considered double-dipping, as the administration of an injection is included in the visit fee.
- Attempting to bill V302 for the cost of the vaccine itself; this code covers the professional service of administration only, not the drug product.
Billing Tips
- If you are performing a minor procedure (e.g., G372) and an immunization on the same day, you cannot bill V302 as the administration is bundled into the procedure fee.
