W062 – First 4 subsequent visits per patient per month - Chronic care or convalescent hospital
OHIP Neurology Code — CONSULTATIONS AND VISITS · Schedule of Benefits
A subsequent visit provided by an Orthopaedic Surgeon (specialty 06) to a patient in a chronic care or convalescent hospital. A subsequent visit is defined as any routine assessment following the patient's admission to a long-term care institution (see ). This fee code applies to the first four (4) subsequent visits per patient, per month. For additional visits, see W061. For emergency calls and other special visits to in-patients, General Listings (A prefix) and Special Visit Premiums must be used.
When to Use
- Use W062 for routine follow-up assessments of an orthopaedic patient admitted to a chronic care or convalescent facility for the first four visits of the calendar month.
- Apply W062 when managing ongoing orthopaedic recovery or chronic conditions in an institutional setting where the patient does not require an emergency or special visit intervention.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing W062 for the fifth or subsequent visit in a month, which will trigger a rejection; use W061 for all visits beyond the fourth.
- Attempting to append a Special Visit Premium to W062, which is strictly prohibited; use an 'A' prefix assessment code if a special visit is clinically required.
- Confusing chronic care/convalescent hospital settings with standard acute care hospital wards, where different subsequent visit codes apply.
Billing Tips
- Track your monthly visit count per patient carefully to ensure you transition from W062 to W061 immediately upon the fifth visit to avoid manual adjustments.
