X120 – Gallbladder - one or multiple day examinations with preliminary plain film
OHIP Laboratory Code — DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY · Schedule of Benefits
A diagnostic radiology service for a one or multiple day examination of the gallbladder, which includes a preliminary plain film. This service has both a professional component (Fee P) and a technical component (Fee H). The technical component is only payable when rendered in a hospital and is subject to restrictions as per of the Schedule. The professional component is for the physician's interpretation and report.
When to Use
- Use X120 for comprehensive gallbladder imaging that requires a preliminary plain film followed by contrast-enhanced or multi-day examination protocols.
- Select X120 when the procedure involves a multi-day diagnostic sequence, distinguishing it from simpler, single-view abdominal imaging codes like X114.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing the technical component (Fee H) for services rendered in a private clinic or outside of a hospital setting will result in automatic rejection per GP11.
- Failing to maintain the mandatory quality assurance documentation as specified in GP11:25 is a primary trigger for audit recovery of the technical component fees.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the professional component (Fee P) is billed only for the interpretation and formal report, keeping it distinct from any associated technical facility fees.
