X441 – Multislice sequence
OHIP Laboratory Code — MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI) · Schedule of Benefits
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the thorax, using a multislice sequence. This service represents the professional component (interpretation) of the scan. A repeat scan using another plane or a different pulse sequence is claimed using X445.
When to Use
- Use X441 for the primary interpretation of a multislice MRI sequence of the thorax.
- Use X441 when performing the initial diagnostic assessment of thoracic structures, reserving X445 for subsequent pulse sequences or planes required for the same study.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing X441 and X445 together without distinct documentation of the additional pulse sequence or plane will trigger an audit or rejection.
- Submitting X441 for non-diagnostic purposes or without a valid referral from an eligible provider (Physician, NP, or Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon) will result in claim denial.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the clinical indication for the thoracic MRI is clearly linked to the interpretation to satisfy medical necessity requirements for the professional component.
