Z270 – Augmentation of chin - with autogenous bone or cartilage
OHIP Psychiatric Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This service provides for the augmentation of the chin as part of surgery for the correction of Down's syndrome facial stigmata, using autogenous bone or cartilage. As per the note on , this fee includes the harvesting and grafting of the bone or cartilage grafts.
When to Use
- Use Z270 specifically when performing chin augmentation using autogenous bone or cartilage as a component of facial reconstruction for Down's syndrome stigmata.
- Select Z270 when the procedure involves the harvesting of the graft material, as this is bundled into the fee and cannot be billed separately.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not attempt to bill a separate harvesting fee for the bone or cartilage graft, as the Schedule of Benefits explicitly includes this in the Z270 fee.
- Avoid billing Z270 for cosmetic chin augmentation, as the code is strictly restricted to the correction of Down's syndrome facial stigmata.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report clearly documents the use of autogenous material to justify the use of Z270 over other non-autogenous augmentation codes.
