When to Use
- Use Z308 for the surgical excision of a choanal polyp when performed as a standalone procedure.
- Use Z308 when the procedure is performed unilaterally; if bilateral, claim Z308 in full and apply the appropriate multiple procedure reduction rules for the second side.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing a consultation or assessment on the same day as Z308 is prohibited if it is the major pre-operative visit; only minor or partial assessments are eligible if the major visit occurred within the previous 12 months.
- Failing to account for the 15% reduction rule when performing multiple procedures under the same anaesthesia or during the same hospitalization for the same condition.
