Z702 – Biopsy
OHIP Psychiatric Code — MALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
A surgical biopsy of the penis. This is a surgical procedure and includes all common and specific elements of surgical services as outlined in the Schedule of Benefits. An add-on fee, E542, is payable when this procedure is performed outside of a hospital setting.
When to Use
- Use Z702 for a formal surgical biopsy of a penile lesion where tissue is excised for histopathological examination.
- Use Z702 when performing a diagnostic biopsy of a suspicious penile mass, distinct from simple superficial scrapings or swabs.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z702 for simple visual inspection or non-invasive diagnostic procedures; it requires an actual surgical excision.
- Avoid billing Z702 in conjunction with other penile surgical procedures if the biopsy is considered an integral part of the primary surgical approach.
- Failure to append E542 when the procedure is performed in an office setting results in the loss of the non-hospital facility premium.
Billing Tips
- Always append E542 to your claim when Z702 is performed in your office to capture the mandatory non-hospital setting premium.
- If an assistant is required for a complex biopsy, do not bill Z702 alone; submit via M400B with supporting documentation for manual review.
