When to Use
- Use Z826A for the surgical excision of the inferior alveolar nerve when performed for intractable trigeminal neuralgia or chronic neuropathic pain refractory to medical management.
- Use Z826A specifically for neurectomy procedures involving the inferior dental nerve; do not use this code for general dental extractions or routine oral surgery procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Z826A for routine dental extractions or nerve blocks, which are not covered under this surgical code and will result in audit recovery.
- Failure to append the mandatory 'A' suffix for the surgeon, 'B' for the assistant, or 'C' for the anaesthetist, which will cause automatic claim rejection.
