Z916
Z916 – Intratympanic injection
OHIP Psychiatric Code — AURAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Intratympanic injection, with or without myringotomy - unilateral. Z912 (Myringotomy) is not eligible for payment when rendered in conjunction with this service.
When to Use
- Use Z916 for the administration of intratympanic steroids or antibiotics for conditions such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss or Meniere's disease.
- Use this code when performing an intratympanic injection that includes a myringotomy, as the myringotomy is considered bundled into the Z916 fee.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z912 (myringotomy) in addition to Z916, as the Schedule of Benefits explicitly prohibits payment for Z912 when rendered in conjunction with this service.
- Avoid billing a separate office visit fee (e.g., A007) on the same day as Z916 unless the visit is for a distinct, unrelated clinical problem supported by separate documentation.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the claim is submitted with the appropriate laterality indicator (e.g., left or right) to avoid rejection, as Z916 is defined as a unilateral procedure.
