A special visit premium payable to a surgical assistant for the first patient seen during a non-elective surgical assistance service rendered on Saturdays, Sundays, or Holidays between 07:00h and 24:00h.
When to Use
- Use C983B when you are called in specifically to assist on an urgent or emergent non-elective surgery at a hospital on a weekend or holiday.
- Use C983B for the first patient seen during an emergency call-out where you must travel to the facility specifically for that surgical service.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing C983B for patients seen during routine hospital rounds or scheduled elective lists will result in automatic rejection.
- Attempting to claim C983B alongside an 'H' prefix emergency department code is prohibited and will trigger a billing audit.
