E007

E007Adult aged from 70 to 79 years, inclusive

OHIP Surgical Assists Code · Schedule of Benefits

Extra units payable in addition to basic units when an anaesthesiologist administers an anaesthetic to an adult aged from 70 to 79 years, inclusive.

When to Use

  • Use E007C as an add-on to the base anaesthesia units for any patient aged 70 to 79 inclusive undergoing a surgical procedure.
  • Apply this code in conjunction with E032C when providing anaesthesia for colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy in this specific age demographic.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not attempt to bill E007C alongside E030C or E031C, as these procedural sedation and nerve block codes explicitly exclude GP97 extra units.
  • Ensure the patient's age is calculated correctly based on the date of service, as billing E007C for a patient who has turned 80 requires the use of E018C instead.

Billing Tips

  • Always append the 'C' suffix to the procedural code and ensure E007C is submitted on the same claim to trigger the unit multiplier correctly.

The amount payable for the anaesthesia service is calculated by adding the number of basic and time units (and extra units like E007C) and multiplying the total by the anaesthesiologist unit fee ($15.96).
