E019CAnaesthetic extra units for infant or child from 1 year to 8 years of age

OHIP Surgical Assists Code — GENERAL PREAMBLE · Schedule of Benefits

An amount is payable for 2 extra units in addition to basic units when an anaesthesiologist administers an anaesthetic to an infant or child from 1 year to 8 years of age inclusive.

When to Use

  • Use E019C in addition to the base anaesthetic fee when providing general anaesthesia for a 5-year-old undergoing elective day surgery.
  • Apply this code when managing an anaesthetic for a child aged 1 to 8 inclusive during procedures covered by E023C or E032C.

Common Pitfalls

  • Attempting to claim E019C alongside E003C will result in an automatic rejection as these services are mutually exclusive.
  • Billing E019C for patients who have reached their 9th birthday will trigger an audit or rejection for age-ineligibility.
  • Claiming E019C with nerve block codes E030C or E031C is prohibited under the General Preamble billing rules.

Billing Tips

  • Always link E019C to the same diagnostic code as the primary anaesthetic procedure to ensure the claim processes correctly.
