When to Use
- Use this code as an add-on to the primary anaesthesia service fee when performing general or regional anaesthesia on a neonate within the first 28 days of life.
- Apply this code to increase the basic unit count by 5 when the patient meets the strict age criteria, regardless of the complexity of the surgical procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Attempting to bill E014C alongside E030C or E003C will result in automatic rejection as these services are mutually exclusive under the General Preamble.
- Billing this code for a patient who has reached 29 days of age will trigger a rejection; ensure the date of service falls strictly within the 28-day window from birth.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the 5 units are added to the total basic units of the primary anaesthesia procedure code before multiplying by the anaesthesiologist unit fee to correctly calculate the total claim value.
