The ASA level for Physical Status Classification must be determined by the anaesthesiologist at the time of the pre-operative anaesthesia assessment.
The determined ASA level does not vary if complications arise during surgery.
Usage limits
Payable once per anaesthesia service where emergency criteria and ASA status are met.
ASA E is a modifier for emergency surgery in the ASA Physical Status Classification system.
Emergency is specifically defined as surgery commencing within 24 hours of the OR booking.
