E019
E019 – Infant or child from 1 year to 8 years of age inclusive
OHIP Surgical Assists Code · Schedule of Benefits
Extra units payable in addition to basic units when an anaesthesiologist administers an anaesthetic to an infant or child from 1 year to 8 years of age inclusive.
When to Use
- Use E019 when providing general anaesthesia for a child aged 1 to 8 years inclusive to claim the additional 2 units on top of the base anaesthesia fee.
- Apply this code for elective or emergency surgical procedures where the patient's age falls within the 1-8 year range, ensuring it is added to the primary anaesthesia service claim.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not attempt to bill E019 alongside E030C or E031C, as these procedural sedation and nerve block codes explicitly prohibit the addition of extra units from the GP97 list.
- Avoid billing E019 for patients who have reached their 9th birthday, as the eligibility strictly ends at 8 years inclusive.
Billing Tips
- Ensure E019 is submitted as an add-on to the primary anaesthesia service code to correctly trigger the additional unit payment of $31.92 based on the 2026 unit value.
