E150 – CritiCall review of complex neuroimaging

This service is an add-on premium payable in addition to K733 for the consultant physician's review of complex neurosurgical imaging. It is rendered as part of a CritiCall telephone consultation, which is a service arranged by CritiCall Ontario where a referring physician or nurse practitioner requests the opinion of a consultant physician by telephone to discuss patient management and/or transfer. The consultant physician is required to review all relevant data provided by the referring physician/nurse practitioner to provide advice on patient management.
When to Use
- Use E150 when you are providing a telephone consultation via CritiCall (K733) and are required to perform a formal review of complex neuroimaging (e.g., MRI or CT angiography) to determine the necessity of an urgent neurosurgical transfer.
- Apply this premium when the complexity of the neuroimaging findings directly dictates the management plan discussed during the K733 consultation.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E150 without a corresponding K733 claim will result in an automatic rejection, as it is strictly an add-on premium.
- Attempting to bill E150 for routine imaging reviews that do not meet the 'complex neuroimaging' threshold or were not part of a formal CritiCall-facilitated consultation will trigger audit flags.
- Exceeding the daily limit of one E150 per patient per physician, even if multiple CritiCall consultations occur for the same patient on the same day.
