E210 is a surgical procedure for the excision of a conjunctival lesion. The fee for this service includes all inherent components of a surgical procedure, such as pre-operative evaluation, preparation of the patient, the excision itself, and immediate post-operative care as outlined in the Schedule of Benefits. It is listed under Ocular and Aural Surgical Procedures on page of the Schedule. If necessary, this procedure can be performed in conjunction with: - E948: with mucous membrane graft - E937: with autogenous conjunctival transplant
When to Use
- Use E210 for the excision of benign conjunctival lesions such as pinguecula or small cysts that do not require a graft.
- Select E210 when performing a simple excision of a conjunctival nevus or papilloma where the defect is closed primarily or left to heal by secondary intention.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E210 with an office visit code (A007) on the same day is a common rejection unless the visit is for an unrelated condition and clearly documented with a separate diagnosis.
- Attempting to bill E210 alongside E208 (excision of pterygium) is a billing error, as the excision of a pterygium is specifically covered under E208 and not E210.

- If the excision requires a conjunctival autograft to cover the defect, ensure you append E937 to E210 to receive the appropriate additional compensation.
