E753 – Live donor nephrectomy

This is an add-on fee payable in addition to the fee for S436 (Donor nephrectomy) when the kidney is from a live donor. The claim for this service must be submitted on the recipient's health number. This fee does not cover immunosuppressive therapy, which is billed separately.
When to Use
- Use E753 exclusively as an add-on to S436 when performing a nephrectomy specifically for the purpose of live organ donation.
- Apply this code when the surgical team is harvesting a kidney from a living donor for transplantation into a recipient.
Common Pitfalls
- Submitting the claim under the donor's health number instead of the recipient's health number will result in an automatic rejection.
- Billing E753 without the primary procedure code S436 on the same claim will lead to a claim error as it is a mandatory add-on fee.
- Attempting to bill immunosuppressive therapy under this code is prohibited; these must be claimed as separate fee-for-service items.
