E771 – Team fee for renal transplantation

The E771 team fee is payable in addition to the fee for a kidney re-transplant procedure (S434). This team fee is not eligible for payment when assistant fees are billed for the same surgical session (found on p.). Claims should be submitted under the recipient's health number. This fee does not include immunosuppressive therapy, which is billed separately on a fee-for-service basis.
When to Use
- Use E771 when acting as a member of the surgical team during a renal transplant procedure alongside the primary surgeon's S434 claim.
- Use this code specifically for the recipient's claim when providing surgical team support for kidney re-transplantation.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E771 in conjunction with an assistant fee for the same surgical session will result in an automatic rejection.
- Submitting the claim under the donor's health number instead of the recipient's health number is a frequent cause of claim denial.
