This is an add-on code payable for the mobilization of the splenic flexure. It can be claimed in addition to S167 (Large intestine - any portion - resection with anastomosis) as per page or in addition to S218 (Colon reconstruction following Hartmann procedure) as per page .

When to Use

Claim E796 when the splenic flexure is fully mobilized to achieve a tension-free anastomosis during a primary colon resection (S167).
Use this code when performing a colon reconstruction following a Hartmann procedure (S218) where mobilization of the splenic flexure is required to restore continuity.

Common Pitfalls

Billing E796 for minor lateral attachments or simple mobilization that does not involve the full splenic flexure, which is considered part of the base procedure S167.
