E832 – Excision of fascia for Dupuytrens, additional rays
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Payable in addition to R551A for the excision of fascia for one or more additional rays for Dupuytren's contracture. This service, along with R551 and E831, includes the palmar and digital components of the procedure, as per . Service is only insured if the patient meets specific criteria for contracture severity or functional impairment, as detailed in the requirements.
When to Use
- Use E832 in conjunction with R551A when performing a fasciectomy on a second or third ray within the same hand.
- Use E832 when addressing recurrent Dupuytren's disease in a patient who has previously undergone surgical intervention on the same hand.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E832 without R551A will result in an automatic rejection, as E832 is strictly an add-on code for additional rays.
- Attempting to bill skin grafts or flaps alongside R551A and E832 is prohibited by the Schedule of Benefits and will lead to audit recovery.
- Exceeding the maximum of two E832 units per limb, per day, will result in the additional units being rejected.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your operative report clearly documents the specific rays treated to justify the use of multiple E832 units.
- Always confirm the patient meets the specific physical criteria (e.g., 30-degree MCP contracture) before billing, as these are mandatory for the service to be considered insured.
