When to Use
- Use F013 specifically for the closed reduction of a Bennett's fracture (base of the first metacarpal) requiring manual manipulation.
- Use this code when the reduction is performed without an open surgical incision, distinguishing it from open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill F013 in addition to F012 or F015 for the same fracture site, as these are mutually exclusive codes for hand/wrist fracture management.
- Avoid billing a standard office visit or hospital admission assessment on the same day as F013, as these are considered included in the surgical fee unless it qualifies as the major pre-operative assessment.

- If the procedure is performed in an office setting, remember to append E584 if a plaster cast is applied, as this is a separate billable add-on.
