F062
F062 – Metatarsus - with rigid immobilization
OHIP Anaesthesia Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This service covers the management of a fracture of one or more metatarsal bones, where treatment consists of applying rigid immobilization (e.g., a cast). It is a non-operative treatment and does not include closed or open reduction of the fracture.
When to Use
- Use F062 for a stable, non-displaced metatarsal fracture where the primary treatment is the application of a rigid cast or boot.
- Use this code when the fracture requires immobilization but does not necessitate a closed reduction procedure (which would be billed under F061).
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill E584 for cast application, as the fee for F062 is inclusive of the rigid immobilization service.
- Avoid billing F062 if you performed a closed reduction; that service requires the use of F061 instead.
- Billing F062 alongside a minor assessment code for the same encounter is often rejected as the assessment is considered included in the surgical fee.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your documentation clearly describes the type of rigid immobilization applied, as this is the defining component of the service.
- If the patient is under 16 years of age, remember to append the appropriate age premium to maximize the claim value.
