F063 – Metatarsus - closed reduction - one or more
OHIP Anaesthesia Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This surgical procedure involves the closed reduction (realignment without incision) of one or more fractures of the metatarsal bones in the foot. The fee includes the surgical procedure itself. Anaesthesia and surgical assistant services are payable separately based on unit calculations. The add-on code E584 may be claimed for the application of a plaster cast when the procedure is performed outside of a hospital.
When to Use
- Use F063 for the closed reduction of one or more metatarsal fractures where no surgical incision is required to achieve alignment.
- Use this code when managing metatarsal fractures in an office or clinic setting, provided the reduction is performed without open surgical intervention.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill F063 if an open reduction was performed; use the appropriate open reduction code (e.g., F064 or F065) instead.
- Avoid billing F063 in conjunction with a consultation or assessment fee on the same day unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated condition.
- F063 is for the reduction procedure only; do not attempt to bill for the initial examination or follow-up visits as part of the surgical fee.
Billing Tips
- If the procedure is performed in your office, remember to add E584 for the application of the plaster cast to ensure you are compensated for the materials and labor.
- Always verify if the patient qualifies for the age-based premium, as this percentage increase applies to both the surgeon's fee and the surgical assistant's fee.
