When to Use
- Use F070 for non-displaced os calcis fractures where the treatment plan is strictly immobilization without any attempt at manual or surgical reduction.
- Use this code when applying a cast or rigid splint to a stable calcaneal fracture that does not meet the criteria for the reduction procedures described in F071 or F072.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing F070 alongside a fracture reduction code (F071 or F072) for the same site is a duplicate billing error and will result in a rejection.
- Attempting to bill an office visit or consultation fee on the same day as F070 is generally disallowed as the surgical fee is intended to cover the procedural encounter.
