Nasal bones - closed reduction

Use F136 for the manual closed reduction of a nasal fracture performed under local or general anaesthesia.
Use F136 when the procedure is performed as a standalone surgical intervention, distinct from a formal septorhinoplasty (F137).

Billing F136 in addition to a formal septorhinoplasty (F137) is considered unbundling; only the higher-valued procedure should be claimed.
Failing to document the specific nature of the reduction can lead to audit scrutiny; ensure the medical record reflects the physical manipulation of the nasal bones.
Attempting to bill an office visit (e.g., A007) on the same day as F136 is generally disallowed unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue.

If the procedure is performed in an Emergency Department, ensure you bill the appropriate Special Visit Premium (Table I) alongside the procedural code to maximize reimbursement for non-elective care.
Always verify if the patient meets the criteria for the E420 Trauma premium if the reduction is performed within 24 hours of the injury and the Injury Severity Score (ISS) requirements are met.
