G115External cardiac pacing (temporary transthoracic)

OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

External cardiac pacing (temporary transthoracic) once per 24-hour period. Note: G115 is not eligible for payment with G521, G522, G523, G395 and G391.

When to Use

  • Use G115 when initiating temporary transcutaneous pacing for symptomatic bradycardia or heart block in an emergency setting.
  • Apply this code when managing a patient requiring external pacing support while awaiting transvenous lead placement or permanent pacemaker intervention.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing G115 alongside G521, G522, or G523 will result in an automatic rejection due to the explicit exclusion of these cardiac procedure codes.
  • Submitting G115 more than once in a 24-hour period is a common audit trigger, as the fee is intended to cover the initial stabilization and setup.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure your documentation clearly indicates the start time of the external pacing to justify the 24-hour window and avoid conflicts with other critical care or procedure codes.
Provider Fee$46.30
