OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

The service rendered for the induction and management of therapeutic hypothermia. As with all insured services, this service includes the common and specific elements as defined in the Schedule of Benefits. See - for more details on constituent elements of insured services.

When to Use

  • Use G210 when initiating and actively managing therapeutic hypothermia protocols for patients post-cardiac arrest in an intensive care setting.
  • Apply this code for the clinical oversight of targeted temperature management (TTM) where the physician is directly responsible for the induction and titration of the cooling process.

Common Pitfalls

  • Attempting to bill After Hours Procedure Premiums like E409 or E410 alongside G210 will result in automatic rejection as G210 is not classified as a Major Invasive Procedure.
  • Billing G210 in conjunction with G556 or G807 for the same patient encounter may trigger a duplicate service flag if the documentation does not clearly delineate the separate therapeutic procedures performed.
  • Incorrectly assuming the Trauma Premium E420 applies to this procedure; it is strictly ineligible for this code category.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the start and end times of the hypothermia management are clearly documented in the chart to support the claim, as this is a time-intensive procedure that may be subject to post-payment audit.
