G807

G807Hyperbaric oxygen therapy supervision (physician not in constant attendance)

OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

The service rendered when a physician supervises HBOT but is not physically present in the hyperbaric unit with the patient, but present in the facility and available to intervene in a timely fashion.

When to Use

  • Use G807 when you are providing medical oversight for a hyperbaric session but are not physically inside the chamber or the immediate hyperbaric unit, provided you remain within the facility.
  • Select G807 when the patient is undergoing a standard hyperbaric treatment session for an approved indication like refractory osteomyelitis or radiation necrosis and you are available for immediate consultation.

Common Pitfalls

  • Claiming G807 on the same day as G800, G801, or G802 will result in an automatic rejection as these codes are mutually exclusive.
  • Failing to document specific physician direction or contact with the hyperbaric unit during the session creates a significant audit risk, as physical presence alone is insufficient for this code.
  • Exceeding the maximum of three units of G805 when billed in conjunction with G807 will trigger a payment adjustment.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure your documentation explicitly notes your availability and any specific clinical guidance provided to the hyperbaric staff during the session to satisfy the 'direction provided' requirement.
