G241
G241 – Obturator nerve - unilateral
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Unilateral percutaneous nerve block of the obturator nerve. This service cannot be billed by a physician who also performs a surgical procedure for which this block provides the anaesthesia. For the bilateral procedure, see G242. If a catheter is inserted for continuous analgesia, G279 may be claimed in addition.
When to Use
- Use G241 for a standalone diagnostic obturator nerve block to confirm the source of chronic hip or adductor pain.
- Use G241 for therapeutic pain management when performing a single-shot block to provide relief for adductor spasticity or chronic neuralgia.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G241 alongside a surgical procedure on the same limb will trigger a rejection, as the block is considered part of the surgical anaesthesia package.
- Attempting to bill G241 for both sides during a single session is a common error; you must use G242 for bilateral procedures to avoid audit flags.
Billing Tips
- If you are placing a catheter for continuous analgesia, ensure G279 is submitted on the same claim to capture the additional fee for the catheter insertion.
