G242
G242 – Obturator nerve - bilateral
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
A percutaneous nerve block procedure involving the bilateral obturator nerves. This service is for injections on both the left and right sides during the same session.
When to Use
- Use G242 when performing a therapeutic or diagnostic block on both the left and right obturator nerves during a single encounter for conditions such as chronic adductor pain or spasticity.
- Select G242 instead of billing G241 twice, as G242 is specifically defined as the bilateral procedure code.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G242 in conjunction with a surgical procedure performed by the same physician on the same patient, which is disallowed under the Schedule of Benefits general rules for nerve blocks.
- Attempting to bill G242 alongside G224 for the same anatomical site, as G224 is restricted to post-operative pain control and cannot be unbundled with G242.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the clinical record clearly documents the bilateral nature of the procedure to justify the use of the G242 code over the unilateral G241.
