G370 – Injection of bursa, or injection and/or aspiration of joint, ganglion or tendon sheath
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Injection of bursa, or injection and/or aspiration of joint, ganglion or tendon sheath
When to Use
- Use G370 for the primary injection or aspiration of a single joint, bursa, or tendon sheath, such as a subacromial bursa or knee joint.
- Use G370 in conjunction with E542 when performing an office-based joint injection outside of a hospital setting to capture the procedural premium.
- Use G370 for the first site treated, then append G371 for each subsequent distinct site injected or aspirated during the same encounter.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G370 alongside a minor assessment code (like A007) for the same encounter will result in the procedure being rejected as included in the assessment fee.
- Attempting to bill G370 for viscosupplementation (e.g., hyaluronic acid) is not supported by OHIP and will lead to audit recovery.
- Billing G370 and G371 for the same joint or bursa is prohibited; G371 is strictly for additional, separate anatomical sites.
Billing Tips
- Always append E542 to G370 when performing the procedure in your office to ensure you receive the additional fee for non-hospital settings.
- If a blind injection fails and you subsequently perform an image-guided injection, bill G370 plus E446, ensuring the documentation clearly notes the initial failed attempt.

The medical record must be dated, identify the non-physician performing the service, and contain a brief note on the procedure performed by the non-physician.
E446 is only eligible for payment when injection of the joint must be repeated using any method of image guidance following a failed blind attempt(s) by the same or different physician. Professional and/or technical fees for obtaining and interpreting the images required for the purpose of guidance of the injection are not eligible for payment to any physician.
