G432Visual fields - static - professional component

OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

Represents the professional component (interpretation) for static visual field perimetry. For the service to be eligible for payment, underlying pathology must be present or suspected. Additionally, the service must include a permanent record with a measurement of at least 50 points per eye, quantification of deficient points, and monitoring of the patient's fixation and reliability.

When to Use

  • Use G432 when interpreting a static threshold perimetry test (e.g., Humphrey 24-2 or 30-2) for a patient with suspected glaucoma or neurological field defects.
  • Select G432 instead of G436 when the test performed is a comprehensive static threshold test rather than a screening or tangent screen procedure.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing G432 for routine vision exams or refractive errors will trigger a rejection, as the code strictly requires documented underlying pathology.
  • Submitting G432 without ensuring the automated printout confirms at least 50 points were tested per eye will lead to recovery during an audit.
  • Failing to document the interpretation of fixation losses and reliability indices in the patient chart is a frequent cause for claim reversal.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the referral source is clearly documented in the chart, as G432 requires a valid referral from a physician, NP, or midwife to be eligible for payment.
  • If performing both the technical and professional components in a private office, ensure you are not double-billing the technical fee if the equipment is not owned by the provider.
