This fee code represents the professional component of tonography, which is a diagnostic procedure to measure intraocular pressure and the facility of aqueous outflow. The service includes tonometry and can be performed with or without a water test. The professional component covers the interpretation of the test results and the report.
When to Use
- Use G433 when performing and interpreting tonography to assess aqueous outflow facility in patients with suspected or established glaucoma.
- Select G433 specifically for the professional component when the diagnostic procedure is performed in a setting where the technical component is billed separately.
Common Pitfalls
- Avoid billing G433 in conjunction with G856, as these procedures are mutually exclusive and will result in a rejection.
- Do not bill G433 for routine tonometry performed as part of a standard comprehensive eye examination, as it is intended for specialized diagnostic tonography.

- Ensure the referral from a physician or nurse practitioner is clearly noted in the chart, as this is a mandatory requirement for diagnostic procedures under the Schedule of Benefits.
