The service rendered by a physician for personally providing medical advice, direction or information to health care staff of a Ontario Health atHome or an Ontario Health atHome contractor on behalf of a patient for whom the physician provides on-going medical care. This service applies to the first 8 weeks following admission to the Ontario Health atHome home care program.
When to Use
- Use K071 when you provide direct clinical guidance to home care staff regarding a patient's care plan during the initial 8-week post-admission window.
- Select K071 when coordinating complex medication adjustments or wound care protocols with Ontario Health atHome nurses that do not require a formal assessment or consultation.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing K071 on the same day as a physical assessment or consultation for the same patient will result in a zero-dollar payment due to the same-day restriction.
- Claiming K071 during a week where G512 (Home Care Supervision) has been billed by any physician will lead to automatic rejection.
- Failing to document the specific name of the Ontario Health atHome staff member contacted is a common audit failure that renders the service ineligible for payment.
