K624Certification of involuntary admission

OHIP Consultation & Visit Premium Codes Code — CONSULTATIONS AND VISITS · Schedule of Benefits

A psychiatric assessment under the Mental Health Act as defined in the General Preamble (). K624 is for the certification of involuntary admission (Form 3) and includes the necessary history, examination, notification of the patient, family, and relevant authorities, and the completion of the form.

When to Use

  • Use K624 specifically when completing a Form 3 (Certificate of Involuntary Admission) under the Mental Health Act.
  • Use this code when the patient meets the statutory criteria for involuntary admission, distinguishing it from K623 which is used for the renewal of an involuntary certificate (Form 4).

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing a consultation or assessment code on the same day as K624 will result in the assessment being paid at nil, as K624 is considered all-inclusive for that encounter.
  • Attempting to bill K624 for the assessment of financial incompetence will result in rejection, as this is explicitly excluded from insured benefits.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the Form 3 is fully completed and retained in the medical record, as this serves as the primary audit evidence for the K624 claim.
  • If you are billing G040-G043 (psychiatric care management), ensure you have also billed K624 or another eligible assessment code within the same month to satisfy the payment eligibility requirements.
