L103 – L103
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L103 for the collection of a venous blood sample by venipuncture when performed by a physician or authorized staff in the office setting.
- Bill L103 when the patient presents specifically for blood work that is not part of a comprehensive assessment or procedure where the collection is considered bundled.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L103 on the same day as an office visit (A007) is considered double-dipping, as the collection is included in the visit fee.
- Submitting L103 for capillary finger-prick samples, which are not eligible for this laboratory collection fee.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the laboratory requisition is clearly dated and linked to the patient record to justify the service if audited.
- Only bill L103 once per patient encounter, regardless of the number of vials collected or the volume of blood drawn.
