When to Use
- Use L720 for the simple excision of a single sebaceous cyst, regardless of anatomical location.
- Select L720 when performing a minor surgical procedure that does not meet the complexity or tissue requirements for Z300 or Z301 excision codes.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L720 in addition to a minor assessment code (A007) on the same day is generally rejected unless the assessment is for an unrelated problem.
- Attempting to bill L720 alongside more complex excision codes like Z300 for the same lesion will trigger a duplicate service rejection.
Billing Tips
- If multiple cysts are removed during the same encounter, bill L720 for the first lesion and use the appropriate multiple procedure logic for subsequent removals.
