Haemoglobinopathy interpretation service. Payment for L829 is conditional upon abnormal test results. As with all insured services, this service includes all common elements as defined in the General Preamble on pages -.
When to Use
- Use L829 when you provide a formal clinical interpretation of an abnormal hemoglobin electrophoresis or HPLC report that requires correlation with the patient's clinical status.
- Use this code when the laboratory report indicates a hemoglobinopathy trait or variant that necessitates a documented management plan or patient counseling session.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L829 for normal hemoglobin results will result in an automatic rejection, as the code is strictly conditional upon the presence of an abnormal finding.
- Attempting to bill L829 in addition to a standard office visit (A007) for the same encounter may trigger an audit if the interpretation is not clearly distinct from the routine review of lab results.
