L836 – Morphometry per parameter
OHIP Dermatology Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Morphometry per parameter. This service is a special procedure with interpretation under the Histology or Cytology sub-category of Laboratory Medicine.
When to Use
- Use L836 when performing quantitative morphometric analysis on specific histological or cytological specimens, such as calculating nuclear area or perimeter in tumor grading.
- Apply this code when the clinical assessment requires precise measurement of cellular structures that exceeds the standard descriptive reporting provided under L834 or L835.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L836 in conjunction with L834 or L835 for the same parameter is considered unbundling and will trigger a rejection.
- Failure to document the specific morphometric parameters measured and the resulting clinical interpretation in the pathology report is the most frequent cause of audit recovery.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the pathology report explicitly states the morphometric methodology used, as the Ministry requires clear evidence that a specialized measurement procedure was performed rather than a standard visual estimation.
