N552
N552 – Excision transverse process - sole procedure
OHIP Otolaryngology Code — SPINAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Excision of a transverse process is a surgical procedure involving the removal of the transverse process of a vertebra. This service is designated as a 'sole procedure'. Note: N546, N547, N551 or N552 are not eligible for payment when rendered with any other service in the Spinal Surgical Procedures section (see ).
When to Use
- Use N552 when performing an isolated excision of a transverse process as the sole surgical intervention during the operative session.
- Use this code for cases where the transverse process is excised due to symptomatic pathology, such as a pseudoarthrosis or localized bony impingement, without any concurrent spinal instrumentation or fusion.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing N552 in conjunction with any other code from the Spinal Surgical Procedures section (Z14) will result in an automatic rejection, as N552 is strictly defined as a sole procedure.
- Attempting to claim N552 alongside N546, N547, or N551 is a common error that violates the explicit restriction against multiple spinal surgical procedure claims in the same session.
Billing Tips
- Ensure that no other spinal procedures are submitted on the same claim, as the Ministry will deny the entire claim if any other Z-section codes are present.
