Postnatal care in hospital and/or home. This is an assessment service for the care of the mother after childbirth, which can be performed as an in-patient in a hospital or during a visit to the patient's home.
When to Use
- Use P007 for routine postnatal assessments of the mother performed in a hospital setting or during a home visit following an uncomplicated delivery.
- Use P007 when providing postpartum care that does not meet the complexity requirements for P008, which is reserved for more involved postnatal care.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing P007 for a patient who is still under the global obstetric fee period if the physician is the primary obstetrician, as this is considered inclusive of routine postpartum care.
- Submitting P007 for a routine office-based postpartum check-up, as this code is strictly restricted to hospital or home visit settings.
