When to Use
- Use R185 for the primary surgical repair of a single torn ankle ligament, such as the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), following acute injury or chronic instability.
- Select R185 when performing an open or arthroscopic primary repair rather than a reconstruction, provided the procedure does not involve the complex grafting required for R744.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing R185 in conjunction with R744 is a common rejection error, as the Ministry considers these mutually exclusive procedures for the same ankle.
