R392
R392 – Orbital dystopia - extracranial approach
OHIP Radiology Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
R392A is for the surgical correction of orbital dystopia using an extracranial approach. Note: As indicated by an asterisk (*) on page (), this service includes the harvesting and grafting of bone or cartilage grafts.
When to Use
- Use R392A for the surgical correction of vertical or horizontal orbital dystopia when the surgical approach is strictly extracranial.
- Use this code for procedures involving the repositioning of the orbital complex where bone or cartilage grafting is required to stabilize the correction.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill separately for bone or cartilage harvesting codes such as Z263, Z264, or Z266, as these are explicitly included in the R392A fee.
- Claims for a second assistant will be rejected unless you provide a formal letter to the Ministry justifying the necessity, as R392A is not on the pre-approved list for second assistants.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the surgical report clearly documents the extracranial approach to justify the use of R392A over other orbital reconstruction codes.
