R632 – Fascial - simple
OHIP Radiology Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Simple reconstruction of the fascia of the femur. This is a surgical procedure and is eligible for surgeon (suffix A), assistant (suffix B), and anaesthetist (suffix C) billing. Assistant services (R632B) are valued at 6 base units plus time units. Anaesthesia services (R632C) are valued at 7 base units plus time units. For calculation of time units and other related rules, refer to the Surgical Assistants' Services (-) and Anaesthesiologists' Services (-) sections of the Schedule.
When to Use
- Use R632 for simple fascial reconstruction of the femur, such as primary repair of a localized fascial defect or simple closure of a fascial tear.
- Distinguish this from R633 (Fascial - complex), which should be reserved for extensive reconstruction, large-scale tissue transfers, or cases requiring synthetic mesh or complex graft integration.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing R632 alongside more extensive musculoskeletal procedures without clear documentation of separate, distinct surgical sites, which risks a claim rejection for unbundling.
- Failing to document the specific complexity of the repair, which may lead to an audit inquiry if the procedure is later reviewed against the higher-valued R633.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the surgical assistant (R632B) and anaesthesiologist (R632C) claims explicitly reference the base units (6 and 7 respectively) plus documented time units to avoid payment processing delays.
